This is my last semester of my MBA at Simmons College, although prior to that my background is in science and engineering. I have worked professionally in a range of fields from consumer product R&D to teaching to operational management.
This Fall, I was approached with questions about starting an organization that would help provide tools to deal with
harassment, discrimination, marginalization and imposter syndrome. As a women in science and technology, this is an area that I also feel strongly about supporting, both as someone who has had to face some of these problems and as an ally where I have more privilege.
Towards this end, I am developing my community of practice by taking the part in the Business Plans and Proposals Workshop. Together, I am looking forward to exploring different potential models, the impact of scalability, and learning about what it would take to move this idea forward.
I am so glad to have you in the class, Emily. I think this is the right time for what you are proposing -- I think your competitive analysis is so critical -- if you are to be a "niche" player -- what can you offer that the big guys don't ? or how will you divide up the market so there is a reliable piece of business for you over time? Your science background is really useful in setting yourself apart. There should be more about this on linkedin....and in the way you talk about yourself...we'll consider this ore as we get into the pitch. Please let me know if you have any questions -- and whether you are "solid" at this point with your sense of direction for the course.
